January is Uber Frugal Month

This January, my fellow blogger Frugalwoods is hosting an “Uber Frugal Month” where anyone can sign up and to receive ideas and inspiration along the way. (Of course, it’s free, and of course, I’m not getting paid to say these things. I’m genuinely excited to do a Monthly Challenge with so many other people from around the globe.)

I can’t wait to see how the month goes! This is the perfect Monthly Challenge for January, when most of us need a reset after the craziness of the holidays. Sometimes it’s easier and less stressful to not buy things than it is to buy things.

In the past I’ve found that Monthly Challenges are great because they allow us to stretch ourselves, but since there is a definitive beginning and end, we can look back and learn what worked and what didn’t. It’s a way to take a lifestyle change for a test-drive before committing to it long-term.

The Uber Frugal Month Challenges You To:

  1. Examine all of your spending.
  2. Categorize mandatory vs. discretionary expenses.
  3. Identify areas where you can reduce or eliminate spending–and then do it!
  4. Go as frugal as you possibly can for one whole entire month.
  5. At the end of the month, identify what level of frugality is feasible for YOU to embrace for the long-term.

While Josh and I have already examined our expenses and done some of these steps, I think it will be fun to jump into the new year with intentionality to spend even less than previous years, and maybe learn a new thing or two about ways to take it to the next level.

Hop over to the Frugalwoods blog to sign up if you’d like to join the experiment. The challenge starts January 1st, but it’s never too late to join. I’ll let you know how the month goes over here and if we actually save money…or if we’ve already frugal-ized as much as we can and don’t notice a difference….

Happy Frugal January!
